DIRT

Dora called it “tierra negra”. Her excitement over the darkest of soils was evident, even to a young child playing in grandma’s backyard. The emphasis she gave to the importance of quality soil still resonates decades later, and the memories of her teachings come alive every time my hands make contact with the dirt that feeds us all. She is the reason for my gardening passion and the never ending quest for good soil. Randomly crossed paths with Cassidy a few years ago. He talks about soil the way Dora did, and today I wish him the best of luck. Flattered to be included in your feature, and convinced that Pachamama and the Knight Foundation will grant you those goals.
